Let’s get started installing vCenter. It is never a bad idea to know what screens and information you will need before you get get there!

vSphere6Installation

Already this looks SIGNIFICANTLY more streamlined than the vSphere 5.5 installations with SSO, Inventory Service, etc etc etc

vSphere6Welcom

Next next next!

vSphere6EULA

vSphere6DeploymentType

I went with Embedded Deployment, this means everything necessary to run vCenter will be installed locally on this server.

External Deployment installs the vCenter server and the Platform Services on seperate servers. This will generally be used in larger environments and there would also be multiple vCenters. For more details about the architecture Check Here

vSphere6NoMemory

Dang! Alright be right back 🙂

Adding Ram and Rebooting

vSphere6SystemName

Pretty self-explanatory, just the system name

vSphere6SSOConfig

What Single Sign-On domain do you wish to add it to, or are you creating a new single sign-on domain?

vSphere6UserAccount

Service account vCenter will be running as…

It threw an error though and I needed to add that user to “Log on as a service” in Local Security Policy

vSphere6LogOnAsService

Done!

vSphere6NotInAdmins

Alright then, added the same user to Local Admins

vSphere6DatabaseConnection

Dangit I always forget to setup the DSN beforehand….

First I create the Database, vSphere6, and give that user rights to the database

vSphere6CreateDatabase

Then I create the DSN. I have some older instructions in this post here

vSphere6DSN

Change the ports if you need something specific, otherwise let it ride.

vSphere6PortSelection

I like installing things on the non-OS drive, so I changed this to D:\

vSphere6DestinationDirectory

vSphere6InstallSettings

And CLICK INSTALL!
